Practicing law in good standing in Nevada since 1991, he began in labor/union law, took a detour into First Amendment and criminal law, and in 1997 he was appointed as an associate attorney for the inaugural legal team of the Clark County Special Public Defender where he served the indigent community until 2003.
In 2003, he was appointed to the Las Vegas Municipal Court bench where he served as the Department 6 judge for an approximately one-year term and served on many committees in an ex officio capacity and first became dedicated to reforms from the bench to better service the homeless population of Las Vegas. He served as a Judge Pro Tempore for the Court for a decade.
Recently, he has been engaged in criminal defense, civil liberties, and gambling-related endeavors.
In 2018, his efforts on behalf of problem gamblers helped result in the creation of the “brick and mortar” gambling diversion court where he not only represented the first participant but became the pro bono public attorney for all participants. He continues to advocate for the interests of problem gamblers to treat their disorder and of course, the homeless.
In 2019, the State Bar of Nevada awarded Figler the prestigious “Medal of Justice.” He is a fierce advocate for pro bono work and is a long-time member of the Pro Bono Project Advisory Council for the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada.
